Femicide, like all forms of gender-based violence against women and girls, is a global issue that affects every country and territory. While the figures in the United Nations report are concerning, they are only the tip of the iceberg. Too many victims of femicide remain uncounted: there is insufficient information to identify roughly four out of every ten intentional murders of women and girls in 2021 as gender-related killings due to national variation in criminal justice recording and investigation practices.

The work Femicide is a portrait of the 45,000 women who according to the UN, were victims of gender-based violence in 2021.
